Expected Salary: $ 67,021 to $ $83,776
To determine final salary, Babcock considers a variety of factors including the successful Candidate’s skills and experience and internal equity. The final base salary offer is at the Company’s sole discretion and presented as part of a competitive total compensation package.

In this role, you will:
Safety Planning and Implementation:
- Assist in the development and implementation of comprehensive safety plans and procedures specific to marine projects
- Supporting the Corporate HSE Manager in ensuring that any new legislation, or revised business requirements are integrated into health & safety procedures such that the Business Management System (BMS) remains fully up to date
- Provide HSE advice and guidance to line management on working practices and arrangements to ensure that work activities are undertaken safely in compliance with regulatory requirements, industry best practices, and Babcock Group safety requirements.
- Assist risk owners where required to conduct HSE risk assessments
- Conduct regular site inspections to identify potential hazards and assess safety risks.
- Support the Business Leaders & Directors in generating and delivering local HSE Improvement Plans aligned with the Corporate HSE Manager’s Business wide HSE Improvement Plan
Training and Education:
- Assist in the development and delivery of safety training programs for employees and subcontractors
- Assist in development of Safety Moments and Safety Alerts where required to increase awareness and identify lessons learned
- Provide guidance on safety-related certifications and qualifications required for specific job roles and tasks
- Promote a culture of safety awareness and accountability across all levels of the organization
Incident Management and Investigation:
- Lead investigations into safety observations, events, incidents, near misses, and accidents
- Analyze root causes of incidents and coordinate corrective actions to prevent recurrence, following up to ensure effectiveness
- Ensure timely reporting of all safety incidents in accordance with Babcock Group Safety requirements and regulatory requirements.
- Coordinate and collaborate with subcontractor Safety teams whereby Babcock Canada is not prime for safety (e.g. multi employer worksites)
Regulatory Compliance:
- Stay informed about changes in safety regulations and standards applicable to Ship/Submarine repair.
- Coordinate with regulatory authorities and auditors during inspections and audits
Safety Performance Monitoring:
- Establish and update key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure safety performance on projects.
- Update performance metrics as per customer requirements (e.g. ISNetworld)
- Conduct regular assessments and audits to evaluate adherence to safety standards and identify areas for improvement.
- Provide timely and accurate safety reports to project management and senior leadership.
The ideal candidate brings:
- Education in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or related field. Years of experience will be considered in lieu.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in safety management, ideally with a focus on marine projects.
- Demonstrated ability to manage all aspects of a safety program on projects of increasing complexity.
- Professional certification in safety management (preferred)
- CPR/First Aid Level 3, Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certification and/or OSHA/MSHA instructor certification.
- Training and experience in conducting fit testing for respirators
- Competent in conducting risk assessments
- In-depth knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety, and WorkSafe BC regulations and other relevant safety standards.
- Strong communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment; ability to freely access all points of the site in wide-ranging climates and environments.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, including writing formal reports, and making presentations
- Good attention to detail, with the ability to recognize discrepancies.
- Strong work ethic – hands-on approach.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
- Good working knowledge and application of ISO14001, ISO45001
- Valid Class 5 driver’s license.
- Willingness to travel and relocate to sites as needed.
- You are eligible for a Canadian Secret Security and ITAR Clearance
