In Canada, Babcock is now well established as a provider of services to the Aviation sector.  Babcock is proud to work alongside the Government of Manitoba to deliver their wildfire suppression services, as well as key components of their critical fixed-wing air ambulance services.  Babcock is now in the process of establishing its a Rotary Wing division.  Babcock will be providing engineering support to Ascent Helicopters as they deliver the vital life-saving aero-medical operations to the Government of British Columbia.

Babcock is looking to recruit a Safety Officer to be based in Vancouver and have responsibilities for its new AW169 engineering operations in British Colombia.

 

In this role, you will:

 

  • Managing a reporting system to ensure the timely collection of information related to hazards, incidents and accidents that may adversely affect safety
  • Report hazards, incidents and accidents identified under the safety management system or as a result of an audit
  • Responsible for reporting concerns to management in a timely manner.
  • Performing / facilitating hazard identification and carrying out safety risk analyses
  • Facilitating the investigation, analyzing and identification of the cause or probable cause of all hazards, incidents, and accidents
  • Establishing and maintaining safety data to monitor and analyze trends in hazards, incidents, and accidents
  • Monitoring corrective actions and evaluating the results
  • Monitoring safety concerns of the aviation industry and their perceived impact on the organization’s operations
  • Planning and organizing safety training
  • Maintaining records and safety documentation
  • Managing Safety promotional activities
  • Organize and facilitate Safety & Quality Action Groups.
  • Acting on deficiencies identified by audits and investigations as well as safety reports in a timely manner
  • Ensuring compliance with regulatory and internal requirements
  • Communicating and making accessible all safety information, notices, policies, directives, legislation, regulations to all managers and employees
  • Responsible for keeping the Safety Management System manual (SMS) current
  • Emergency Preparedness planning
  • Other duties as assigned

 

The ideal candidate brings:

 

  • At least 5 years’ experience in aviation.
  • Experience conducting operational safety audits, safety investigations and processing / reviewing Hazard and Safety Occurrence Reports
  • Sound Knowledge of TCCA and H&S legislation, and Operational Risk Management.
  • Well-developed verbal and written communication.
  • Proficient in the conduct of trend analysis and development of improvement and/or remedial action plans
  • A sound understanding of Safety Management Systems
  • A sound understanding of the application of human factors in aviation
  • Competent in the use of Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, Power Point).
  • Hold a valid Canadian Aircraft Maintenance Engineer (AME) license. would be an asset
  • You are eligible for an Airport Restricted Area Identity Card (RAIC) and ITAR Clearnace.
