Expected salary: $134,579 to $201,868

The Senior Director, Engineering and Technology reports to and supports the Chief Executive Officer in delivery of disciplined and professional engineering and technical processes, and task execution across Babcock Canada. The incumbent will also be the Corporate Engineering Authority and responsible for continuous improvement in engineering processes and deliverables across the Company. 

As a member of the Canadian Senior Leadership Team (SLT), the Senior Director, Engineering and Technology directs and oversees engineering assurance and performance, program risk, value-added pragmatic design, and capability development.

In this role, you will:

  • Be responsible for leading the Engineering function across all sectors in Canada with support from the wider Babcock Global Engineering Function.
  • Own and deliver a strong safety and continuous improvement culture within the Engineering and Technology function.
  • Develop and deliver Engineering and Integrated Logistics Support capability by progressing people, processes, and tools in such a way as to ensure the function is scalable to accommodate Babcock’s growth.
  • Assure that engineering standards are being adhered to through the execution of appropriate evidence-based governance and assurance of all engineering outputs across Babcock Canada including engineering work and data supporting the assessment of material status and configuration.
  • Lead the Design Agent function for Babcock Canada including maintenance of Design Intent, Change and Obsolescence Management, as well as Assurance of Safety and Capability.
  • Ensure design outputs comply with legislated requirements, corporate policies, best practice, client specifications, and manage business risks as they arise.
  • Under the direction of Babcock Canada’s CEO, lead Canada’s innovation strategy.
  • Lead the Corporate Industrial and Technological Benefits portfolio.
  • Strictly adhere to all budgets and financial requirements.
  • Interface with customer Design Authority representatives and Steering Committees to collaborate on strategic contractual initiatives and issues.

 

The ideal candidate brings:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline. A master’s degree in engineering or applied science would be considered an asset.
  • Registered as a Professional Engineer in a Canadian jurisdiction or eligible to be registered.
  • A minimum of fifteen (15) years’ experience working as an engineer, with ten (10) years of the 15 years in a leadership capacity, in a highly regulated, complex engineering environment.  Preference will be given to experience that includes managing and executing engineering delivery within a defence environment focussed on ship and/or submarine in-service support, design management, installation design, and design integration.
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver executable ship designs / ship refit packages including requirements and statements of work to shipyards while also providing oversight to verify compliance.
  • Experience with Integrated Logistics Support of complex assets.
  • Experience with industrial cooperation and partnering; domestically and in international environments.
  • A strong understanding of engineering assurance and product safety methods/ practices.
  • Demonstrated ability to work at a strategic level delivering high performance results on time, through inspiring leadership and outstanding communication skills.
  • Ability to build and maintain close-working relationships and networks at a senior level with government customers and industry partners.
  • Ability to successfully manage competing stakeholder requirements particularly when there are technical and budgetary challenges.
  • Team player who works effectively in a multi-cultural environment.
  • Eligibility for a Canadian Secret Security and ITAR Clearance.
