Lead Technical Author

About the role

The Lead Technical Author has a key role in overseeing development of Work Instructions (WI) including planned maintenance, corrective maintenance, urgent defects and Risk Based Assets for Products Being Supported (PBS) by the Regional Maintenance Provider - West.


You will also lead and manage a team of Technical Authors, and ensure that all maintenance work instructions developed by the team comply with the relevant Commonwealth requirements.

 

Your responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Oversee creation and create Work Instructions (WI) utilising AMPS and MWLs in accordance with approved WI development and management processes;
    Line manager to a team of Technical Authors, managing and tracking their workload, contributing and maintaining their training development and PDRs;
  • Oversee identification and identify key tasking scope steps from either a Standard Activity (SA), TM200, Condition Assessment Report’s (CAR’s) or Hull Inspection Reports (HIR’s) to construct a WI in accordance with the ANP as identified on the Main Work List (MWL);
  • Identify relevant system drawings, manuals and associated documentation for inclusion into WI data packs and attachments;
    Identify and report potential improvements to SA documents and WI process/procedures;
  • Oversee Technical Author's understanding and adherence to the N library;
  • Oversee WI quality through periodic quality audits, peer reviews and pre-approvals;
  • Contribute to technical information presentation and discussion (including formal reviews) with customers (internal and external);
  • Contribute to engineering /technical team decisions; understand why such decisions are made and their relationship to project objectives;
  • Contribute to accurate and appropriate technical documentation records being securely developed and maintained in

 

About you

To be successful you will have:

  • Minimum five (5) years’ experience in Technical Writing skills within Defence or similar industry;
  • Intermediate level of MS Excel and Word applications;
  • Demonstrated ability to work under minimal supervision;
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
  • Strong computer skills; and
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team to achieve desired results.
  • Australian Citizenship with the ability to obtain and maintain a Defence Security Clearance
