About the role

We are looking for a Commercial Manager who can provide Commercial leadership and expertise to the Mission & Support Systems (M&SS) business unit. Partnering with business stakeholders across the full contract lifecycle, the role supports business growth, contract delivery, and customer engagement by ensuring Babcock’s commercial interests are protected, risks are effectively managed, and contractual obligations are met.

The role contributes to winning new business, managing existing contracts, and strengthening customer relationships through the application of commercial best practice, governance, and innovative commercial solutions aligned to Babcock’s principles and policies.

 

Duties will incude but are not limited to:

  • Provide commercial support to the Mission & Support Systems business unit across the full contract lifecycle (capture, bid, negotiation, and delivery phases).
  • Act as the commercial interface with customers and key stakeholders, developing and maintaining strong, professional relationships.
  • Lead or support the negotiation and agreement of customer contracts, contract amendments, and variations in accordance with the Delegation of Authority.
  • Provide expert advice on contract interpretation, obligations, liabilities, and risk to project teams and business stakeholders.
  • Ensure commercial governance is applied in accordance with Babcock policies, processes, and contracting principles, including supporting Gate approvals and audit readiness.
  • Identify, assess, and manage commercial risks, including development of mitigation strategies and input into risk registers.
  • Work collaboratively with Procurement & Supply Chain to ensure appropriate flow-down of contract terms and alignment of commercial risk through the supply chain.
  • Engage with Legal and other corporate specialists where required to obtain advice and ensure appropriate risk management and compliance.
  • Provide commercial input into customer and internal reviews, including reporting on contract performance.
  • Contribute to the development and continuous improvement of commercial processes, tools, and practices.
  • Share knowledge and best practice across the Commercial function to drive consistency and capability uplift.

About you

To be successful you will bring:

  • Australian citizenship with a Defence Security Clearance (or ability to obtain).
  • Degree in Business, Commerce, Law, or a related discipline (or equivalent experience)
  • Demonstrated experience (typically 8–12+ years) in commercial, contracts, or related roles within a complex project, Defence, or Government environment.
  • Experience working across the contract lifecycle, from bid development through to contract execution and close-out.
  • Proven ability to build and maintain effective stakeholder relationships, including with customers and senior internal stakeholders.
    Experience operating within structured governance frameworks and Delegations of Authority.
  • Strong experience in contract negotiation and management, customer-facing commercial roles, bid and tender support and commercial risk identification and management.
