At Cavendish Nuclear we’re working to create a safe and secure world, together, and if you join us, you can play your part as a Senior Piping Designer, at our Warrington (Cheshire) or Humberside (East Yorkshire) site

The role

As a Senior Piping Designer, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. You’ll design safe, maintainable piping systems and plant layouts that enable clean energy and defence projects to move from concept to reality.

Cavendish Nuclear is powering one of the UK’s most strategically important nuclear programmes, partnering with Springfield Fuels Limited to deliver a brand‑new, cutting‑edge facility at the Springfields site in Preston that will convert Reprocessed Uranium into UF6 at a scale of 2,500 tonnes per year. This nationally critical project, featuring a new RepU conversion plant, a Fluorine Production Plant and modern support facilities, is set to be operational by 2031, and we’re building a major multidisciplinary team to make it happen.

Day‑to‑day you’ll be required to:

  • Design piping systems and plant layouts that can be safely installed, operated and maintained.
  • Work from piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs) to generate accurate Plant 3D models, equipment layouts and pipe routing.
  • Produce core deliverables—piping isometrics, general arrangements and support details—and check design outputs from other designers.
  • Coordinate across disciplines, clients and sub‑contractors to optimise design and integrate vendor models.
  • Apply QA/QC procedures and piping specifications consistently throughout concept, FEED and detailed design stages.

This is a permanent, full‑time role working 37 hours per week based in Warrington (Cheshire) or Humberside (East Yorkshire).

Essential experience of the Senior Piping Designer:

  • Proficiency in Autodesk Plant 3D (reskilling from PDMS/AutoPlant considered).
  • Expertise with Navisworks Manage for model review and clash detection.
  • Experience using Autodesk ReCap for reality capture/point clouds.
  • Demonstrable ability to interpret and work from P&IDs.
  • Track record producing isometrics, general arrangements and support details to nuclear‑grade standards.

Qualifications for the Senior Piping Designer:

  • Minimum HNC in Engineering (or equivalent experience).

Security Clearance

The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Standard (BPSS) security clearance for this role. Further details are available at United Kingdom Security Vetting: clearance levels - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk)
