The role

As a Principal Estimator, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. You will be combining an inquisitive approach and your analytical skills to look for opportunities to drive continuous improvement and transformation within the wider function.

 

Day-to-day, you’ll lead a team of developing Estimators and manage their outputs to contribute to wider project deliverables in a dynamic environment.

 

  • Planning, monitoring and managing projects, programmes and portfolios from initiation through to completion. 
  • Responsible for generating the cost and other resources needed to complete a project within a defied scope, considering all activities and elements required for a project and calculating a total amount to determine project’s budget.
  • Compile estimates by assessing the materials, labour and equipment that will be required based on a variety of historical and current information sources. 
  • Generate structured forecast, or estimate, with a record or the inputs, assumptions, and exclusions to enable a clear and measurable record.

 

Please note that this position involves travel/working across a range of internal and customer sites, as a requirement of the role.

 

This role is full time, thirty-seven hours per week and provides hybrid working arrangements and can be based at one of our sites including Warrington, Bristol, Leicester.  

 

Essential experience of the Principal Estimator

  • Demonstrable experience working on large and complex projects / programmes, preferably within highly regulated industries such as nuclear, defence, construction, engineering. 
  • In-depth leadership experience, with prior experience of leading a team.
  • Working knowledge of Work Measurement, Cost Estimating, Cost and Data Analysis, Cost modelling and Assurance
  • Proven strong people skills and experience in stakeholder management within situations of competing priorities. 
  • Excellent numerate and written communication and strong computer literacy within standard tools (e.g. MS Office Suite & Estimating specific software)

 

Qualifications for the Principal Estimator

  • Chartered or Professional Membership, such as APM, RICS, ACostE / Controls and Skills Authority (CaSA)
