The role

As an Instrument Assistant, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. This is a hands-on, varied role where you'll work as part of a specialist team, supporting essential operations that protect people, infrastructure and the environment. You'll gain valuable experience in a highly regulated industry while contributing to work that makes a real difference to national capability and security.

This role is full time, working 37 hours per week, based at Sellafield. Set working times are Monday to Friday, 07:30 to 15:30. This is an onsite position.

Day-to-day, you’ll be required to:

• Carrying out maintenance, repair and practical workshop tasks on radiation protection instrumentation and associated equipment.  
• Supporting the manufacture and repair of leads, detectors and related components.
• Maintaining workshop areas through effective housekeeping, waste disposal and equipment care.
• Supporting operational and maintenance activities within workshops and customer facilities, including radiologically controlled areas.
• Working safely with sealed radioactive sources while identifying opportunities to improve service quality and efficiency.

Essential experience of the Instrument Assistant:

• Holding a full UK driving licence.
• Demonstrating a practical, hands-on approach to work.
• Using basic hand tools safely and effectively.
• Following procedures and instructions while working independently when required.
• Maintaining high standards of safety, quality and housekeeping.

Qualifications for the Instrument Assistant:

• GCSEs (or equivalent qualifications).

Security Clearance
