Join our 4-year Electrical and Electronic Manufacturing Apprenticeship and take the first step toward a rewarding career. You'll learn to assemble, wire, and test a range of electrical and electronic equipment, gaining practical experience while supporting key industries such as power generation and defence.
About the programme
You'll get the best of both worlds through a mix of practical experience and classroom learning. You can look forward to 2 days a week at Loughborough College and 3 days at our advanced engineering facility in Whetstone.
You'll be working as part of the team in our workshop - learning to use a range of power tools, hand tools and test/measuring instruments. You’ll be surrounded by experienced and supportive colleagues, eager to share their knowledge and to bring out the best in you.
What you'll be doing:
- Assembly, wiring, and testing of electrical and electronic equipment
- Using power and hand tools
- Applying safe working practices
- Spending time in our Whetstone workshop
- Opportunities to work at customer sites.
Safety is our top priority, so you'll also learn the best practices for manufacturing, repairing, and testing equipment.
Your education/training
You will study for a Level 3 Engineering Technician Apprenticeship through Loughborough College. First-year topics include Engineering, Maths, Health & Safety, CAD Design and Maintenance. You will gain theoretical knowledge and practical skills, while learning to work with minimum supervision and take responsibility for the quality, accuracy and timely delivery of your work.
Future prospects
You can expect exposure to exciting projects that will provide excellent preparation for your future career. Once you've completed the apprenticeship, you'll be fully equipped to take on the role of an Electrical and Electronic Manufacturing Technician. Many of our apprentices move into specialised, skilled industries such as nuclear and defence.
What you’ll need
- At least 5 GCSEs at grade 4 (C) or above, including English and Science.
- Maths at grade 5 (B) or above.
- A genuine interest in engineering and a positive attitude.
- Many of our early careers roles are subject to Security Clearance and Trade Control restrictions which mean that your place of birth, nationality, citizenship, or residency you hold or have held may impact which roles you are eligible for. For our early careers roles, you must be able to achieve BPSS and many of them require you to be eligible for Security Clearance.
