The role
As a Mechanical Technician, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. Working within the nuclear sector, you’ll operate and maintain highly specialised equipment in a dynamic, technically complex, and tightly regulated environment. You’ll be part of a dedicated Roving Maintenance Team, providing critical support to Heysham, Torness, and Hartlepool power stations during planned shutdown periods. Your work will help ensure the continued safety, reliability, and performance of these key energy sites.
- Ensuring the availability of any specific tools, spare parts, or equipment required to carry out tasks (general hand tools are usually provided by the relevent resident Site Team.)
- Interpreting and carrying out assigned tasks in line with all relevant quality standards and procedures.
- Completing the scope of work within agreed timeframes and budget constraints.
- Timely preparation and completion of all necessary documentation and records related to the task—such as Assembly & Test Plans.
- You may be supported by supervisory staff during task execution, with access to site services including quality assurance, safety, and administration.
This is a permanent, full-time roving position with contracted hours of 37 per week, however will require frequent overtime (paid at 1.5x) including day and night shifts; typical shifts are 12 hours per day. The role involves regular travel and overnight stays to support power stations at Heysham (Lancashire), Hartlepool (County Durham), and Torness (East Lothian). In return, you’ll receive a highly competitive package including paid overtime, an annual mobility allowance, and travel and accommodation expenses.
Please note that this position involves manual work. This could include lifting, bending, using tools or standing for extended periods of time.
Essential experience of the Mechanical Technician
- Proven experience in a Mechanical Technician role, ideally within the nuclear generation sector or another highly regulated industry.
Qualifications for the Mechanical Technician
- Ideally holds a Degree, HNC, ONC, or an equivalent engineering qualification.
Security Clearance
