The role
As a Radiologic Protection Instrumentation (RPI) Specialist, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. You will provide technical direction, guidance, and support to the Radiation Metrology department.

 

Day-to-day, you’ll provide technical expertise and address issues in the Radiation Metrology department, ensuring project and service delivery.

  • Produce, review, verify, and approve outputs (e.g. calculations, analysis results, reports).
  • Ensure correct application of tools, procedures, and standards to scientific and measurement activities; contribute to the Management System for best practices and compliance.
  • Identify and propose continuous improvements and new developments in Metrology, considering safety, cost, quality, and delivery.
  • Participate in external committees, seminars, and forums to maintain technical competence and stay updated on UK nuclear industry developments.

This role is full time, 37 hours per week and is based on site at Berkeley, Gloucestershire. Some travel within the UK is expected, including visits to customer sites and attendance at RPI-related events. Typically, this travel will occur no more than once per quarter.


Essential experience of the RPI Specialist:

  • Proficient in Physics and Mathematics, particularly counting and measurement statistics, with relevant experience.
  • Technical role experience in a commercial/production or calibration lab, balancing technical input and commercial awareness; enthusiasm for scientific work.
  • Self-motivated, independent, and able to prioritise and manage workload in a busy commercial lab.
  • Role model, demonstrating principles of health, safety, wellbeing, respect, and inclusion.
  • Strong communication, organisation, report writing, and time management skills.

 

Qualifications for the RPI Specialist:

  • Degree in a relevant technical discipline, or appropriate similar qualifications.
  • Maths or Physics degree is desirable.
     

Security Clearance
