Keep The UK’s Energy Secure by Building, Testing and Maintaining Safety‑Critical Systems

At Cavendish Nuclear we’re working to create a safe and secure world, together, and if you join us, you can play your part as a Field Electrical, Control and Instrumentation (EC&I) Technician.

The role

As a Field EC&I Technician, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. You’ll play a vital role in keeping nuclear power stations safe, available and compliant. You work with specialised equipment and safety systems, apply rigorous test standards, and help ensure reliable low‑carbon energy for millions of homes, all while building your expertise in one of the UK’s most regulated and meaningful engineering environments.

Day‑to‑day you’ll be required to:

  • Build and wire small electronic modules, boxes, units, and control/indication panels and cubicles.
  • Assemble and hand‑solder through‑hole printed circuit boards (PCBs) and carry out functional testing to approved documentation.
  • Test, verify and peer‑check results for analogue PCBs and electrical equipment; collate and record test evidence accurately.
  • Follow and sign off production plans within an ISO 9001 quality system, flag variances and seek approval for corrective action.
  • Travel and work on site at multiple UK power stations, collaborating with experienced teams in highly regulated environments.

Set working times are 37 hours per week: Monday to Wednesday 07:30–18:00, Thursday 07:30–15:00. During outages, you work 12‑hour shifts with paid overtime (time‑and‑a‑half) and a premium (time‑and‑a‑third) for night hours. This is a roving role with regular travel and overnight stays to support EDF power stations at Heysham, Hartlepool and Torness, as well as our Whetstone Manufacturing site; travel and accommodation expenses are provided.

Essential experience of the Field EC&I Technician:

  • Proven experience in an Electrical, Control and Instrumentation (EC&I) technician role within a regulated environment.
  • Hands‑on PCB assembly, wiring and panel‑build experience, including test and verification.
  • Working knowledge of ISO 9001 processes and documentation.
  • Ability to travel frequently, including overnight stays, to UK power station sites.
  • Strong attention to detail, safety focus and accurate record‑keeping.

Qualifications for the Field EC&I Technician:

  • Level 3 Engineering qualification — essential.
  • Apprenticeship or equivalent vocational training in a relevant discipline — preferred.

Security Clearance

The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role. Further details are available at United Kingdom Security Vetting: clearance levels - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk)
