About the role
As a Mechanical Engineer at Babcock, you’ll apply your technical expertise to support the sustainment and refurbishment of the Collins-class submarine fleet. You’ll play a key role in delivering practical, high-quality engineering solutions, helping resolve complex design and configuration challenges while ensuring technical outcomes are achieved safely, on time, and within budget.
This is a hands-on role where you’ll be involved across the full engineering lifecycle—from technical investigations and configuration control to set-to-work, testing, and trials. You’ll also contribute to the development and maintenance of accurate technical documentation, ensuring critical knowledge is captured and sustained. Your work will directly impact the performance, reliability, and safety of one of Australia’s most critical defence capabilities.
About you
You’re a detail-oriented Mechanical Engineer who enjoys solving real-world problems and applying your technical knowledge in a complex, high-stakes environment like the Collins-class submarine program. You bring a solid understanding of design, analysis, manufacturing, and sustainment practices, and you’re confident making sound engineering decisions within your discipline.
You value collaboration and continuous improvement, actively sharing knowledge and learning from those around you. You’re proactive in staying current with emerging technologies and engineering practices, and you’re motivated by the opportunity to deliver safe, reliable, and high-impact solutions that support Australia’s sovereign defence capability.
To be successful in this position you will bring:
- A good understanding of the design, analysis, manufacturing, and support techniques throughout the engineering product lifecycle.
- Knowledge of engineering reports / technical writing in an engineering environment.
- A satisfactory understanding of Product Safety and Quality Processes.
- Awareness of the principles of technical risk management.
- Awareness of Configuration Management Processes.
- Awareness of the engineering Change Management Process.
- A satisfactory understanding of applicable engineering toolsets (e.g. PLM or MRP systems, design, simulation and analysis software).
