The role
As a Buyer, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. You will play a key part within the Procurement and Supply Chain team focused on a variety of direct and indirect activities.
Day-to-day, you’ll work within the procurement and supply chain team. You will support procurement and warehouse integration, work with the material planner to ensure plan and deliveries align to operational requirements, whilst also supporting senior buyers preparing and issuing requests for quotations (RFQ’s).
- Processing requisitions and placement of purchase orders / contracts for supply in an efficient and timely manner, to meet or exceed service levels. Ensuring all Contracts within the individual’s delegated authority meet the Babcock International Group Commercial, health and safety policies and procedures.
- Carry out sourcing and supplier allocation activities in support of business objectives
- Managing supplier order books to ensure goods and/or services arrive on time in full and meet the required specifications and performance objectives.
- Assisting in supplier performance and relationship management activities to sustain and improve supplier performance to assure achieve business objectives
- Managing system data to ensure it remains accurate and producing management information outputs to inform project management and business objectives
This role is full time, 37.5 hours per week and provides hybrid working arrangements with days in the office/onsite and days working from home.
Essential experience of the Buyer:
- Proven experience within a supply chain role, preferably within defence, manufacturing or engineering environment
- Computer literate, particularly in Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook and PowerPoint
- Knowledge of procurement systems such as ERP / MRP technologies is desirable
- Navision experience is desirable.
Qualifications for the Buyer:
We value difference and don’t have a fixed idea when it comes to background or education, provided you can show the required level of experience and/or willingness to learn then we would like to hear from you. However, CIPS qualified or working towards is desirable.

The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) and NPPV security clearance for this role.
