In this role, you will:


  • Be providing waterfront welding and hull surveillance support to the Naval Architecture team. The work package is split between on-site work including hull and structural surveys and office work. The day to day workings of the job entail working with an interdisciplinary technical team to provide unique solutions to complex challenges related to submarines.
  • Be required to inspect and survey steel submarine structure, compile your findings and produce survey reports.
  • Be able to assess steel and fiberglass submarine structural surveys to relevant codes and standard to determine if and what types of repairs are necessary.
  • Be required to assess NDE reports (including UT, RT, MPI and VT) and categorize structural and weld defects.
  • Generate and review technical repair specifications of steel submarine structure.
  • Work with shipyard production personnel and the project management team to expedite work in a timely fashion.


As our ideal candidate,


  • You will have experience working in a fast paced commercial shipyard environment.
  • You will have strong team work skills and an ability to effectively work in an environment with competing priorities.
  • You would have experience providing on-site Production support to welding and structural welding queries, including directly interfacing with Production
  • You will have 5 years working as a marine surveyor, preferably on steel hulled vessels.
  • You will have a background in welding or welding inspection.
  • You will hold an accreditation as Technologist with ASTTBC.
  • Certification from a recognized Association of Marine Surveyors such as SAMS, NAMSGlobal or IIMS
