In this role, you will:
- Be expected to interact in a matrix organization and provide pragmatic welding solutions and engineering support in accordance with dynamic program delivery requirements in a shipyard waterfront environment.
- Responsible to provide direction and assistance to Engineering, Project, and Production departments on Victoria In-Service Support Contract (VISSC) welding and Non-Destructive Examination (NDE) of materials such as non-ferrous pipe and steel alloy plates.
- Be a part of the Waterfront Welding Team (WWT) to ensure the technical accuracy and content of the welding specifications released by Babcock Engineering. The responsibility extends to ensuring that engineering specifications and work items that prescribe welding contain adequate performance specifications, NDE requirements, Weld requirements, and Category and Class of welding, such that the quality of the deliverables always meet the contracted standards.
- Perform on-site inspections onboard and outside the submarine
- Work collaboratively as part of an integrated project team to specify the requirements for the development of welding procedures and performance qualifications in accordance with code requirements.
- Collaborate with the WWT Team Lead to capture opportunities to improve operational processes to maximize its responsiveness to VISSC projects’ priorities and schedules.
The ideal candidate brings:
- Graduated from a recognized institution with post-secondary education or accreditation as a Welding Technologist (or equivalent) or significant experience and exposure to welding activities in the marine sector.
- 8+ years of relevant technical experience (welding, weld inspection, and structural engineering - naval architecture experience highly desirable).
- Registered (or eligible for registration) as an AScT in British Columbia.
- Submarine systems knowledge and experience, including operations and maintenance (5+ years) desirable.
- Regularly required to stand, walk, sit, stoop, kneel, bend, crouch, crawl, climb ladders, and enter confined spaces.
- Experience providing technical leadership and direction highly desirable.
- Proof that you are fully vaccinated against COVID-19, meaning that you must have received the full series of a COVID-19 vaccine approved by the Government of Canada with the final dose at least 14 days prior to your start date as well as any COVID boosters recommended by public health authorities.
- You are eligible for a Canadian Secret Security and ITAR Clearance.
