Expected Salary: $81,738 to $118,065

In this role, you will:

  • Manage, coordinate, and develop the resources of the Commissioning sections to safely complete system hand overs, testing, set to work, and commissioning of submarine systems.
  • Assign Test Directors to conduct system testing / commissioning based on the PTS’s knowledge of the individual’s qualifications, experience, and system knowledge of the Senior Test Specialist (STS) or Test Specialist (TS).
  • Conduct Test Director / Testing Activity verifications.
  • Ensure risks associated with testing and commissioning activities are identified, managed, recorded in approved Risk Assessments. The PTS are to verify testing activity risk categories are allocated correctly and communicate those risks to the Test Directors and the appropriate teams.
  • Provide overall coordination and supervision for the activities of STS and TS, applicable Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and risk management mitigations.
  • Authorize Ripout / Tagout packages across inter-related systems that pre-test system operation, isolate energy sources prior to Production activities, specify system re-test requirements and set-to-work instructions on completion.
  • Close liaison and coordination of outside authorities (i.e. DND, FMF, FSRs, OSMT, Project Delivery Team) involved with testing activities.
  • Close liaison with Joint Test Group (JTG) to understand testing requirements and close out commissioning deliverables.
  • To review, process and technical documentation in support of testing activities.
  • Identify risks and opportunities for improvement during the course of testing and maintenance.
  • Coordinate and lead daily team meetings and safety briefings
  • Participate in the development of junior personnel

 

The ideal candidate brings:

  • 10+ years of experience operating, testing or commissioning mechanical systems
  • A post-secondary education in a relevant field, preference for a technical /engineering discipline
  • Eligible for recognition as AScT or PEng designation, as applicable, in British Columbia
  • Strong communication skills; written, verbal and interpersonal in order to maintain close liaisons with Customer, Engineering, Project Management and Production staff
  • Expert level knowledge of one of the following marine systems as well as strong working knowledge in a variety of other related technologies:
    • Field functional testing of mechanical systems;
    • Hydraulic, high pressure air and auxiliary systems including their components, control and monitoring systems;
    • Propulsion diesel engines and ancillary systems including fuel, cooling, lubricating oil, induction and exhaust;
    • Marine propulsion systems including knowledge of shaft lines, propellers, steering systems and their control systems
    • Piping systems, their test procedures and engineering standards;
    • Basic knowledge of metallurgy and welding practices; and
    • Safety requirements for Lockout/Tagout and Confined Space Access as described by WorkSafe BC or equivalent Canadian Workers Compensation Legislation
  • Marine, offshore oil and gas drilling or naval vessel experience would be considered a strong asset
  • Strong computer skills including MS Office suite desirable
  • CAPM or PMP designation, an assetYou are eligible for a Canadian Secret Security and ITAR Clearance
