In this role, you will:
-
Create and define requirements for testing and verification activities for Victoria Class Submarine electrical systems and equipment.
-
Ensure safe completion of complex submarine overhaul periods with a focus on safety case and regulatory control practices.
-
Provide electrical systems management and maintenance for naval nuclear reactors, propulsion systems, and ancillary equipment.
-
Be the subject matter expert on naval electrical systems associated with platform systems, hydraulics, pressurized water reactors, firefighting, air purification and safety related systems, equipment, and components.

Oversee the approval of documentation to control testing of submarine systems and equipment to verify design performance has been restored following equipment and system maintenance.

Manage submarine atmosphere controls maintenance and operations during routine and emergency situations.

Be a key contact for personnel requiring instruction and guidance in such fields as environmental controls, nuclear procedures, risk management, and military contracts.

Develop and implement authorised nuclear procedures, technical administrative instructions, health and safety, and risk management
-
Develop and review verification specifications to align with industry standards for complex test and acceptance activities for electrical systems
-
Conduct equipment troubleshooting, fault diagnosis and corrective maintenance

Record defects using Babcock Canada IT applications
-
Verify testing defects are resolved using Babcock Canada IT applications and that full designed performance is restored to submarine systems
-
Coordinate and lead meetings of the electrical Test Group to ensure test documentation is available to support the testing schedule and verification of results to support the delivery schedule of the submarine projects.

Be responsive to the Joint Test Group Chairman for dynamic program delivery requirements in a shipyard waterfront environment

Identify risks and opportunities during testing and maintenance
The ideal candidate brings:
-
A minimum of 5 years of experience testing or commissioning electrical systems
-
A post-secondary education equivalent to a college diploma, bachelors, or comparable education in a relevant field, preference for a technical Marine engineering discipline
-
Strong communication skills; written, verbal and interpersonal
-
Mandatory formal training and experience in the field of Marine Engineering or naval environment
-
Knowledge of project management, maintenance management, operation and commissioning of submarine systems
-
Expert level knowledge of one of the following marine systems as well as strong working knowledge in a variety of other related technologies:

Alternating Current systems and power distribution control systems
-
Direct Current control systems / motor control / generator testing
-
Control and monitoring system testing experience
-
Lead acid or lithium-ion battery systems
-
Naval mission system equipment experience including sonar, navigation, tactical, communication, weapon discharge and handling systems
-
Fibre optic applications, cable characteristics, connectors, termination, inspection and testing
-
Uninterrupted power supplies and switching
-
Functional and non-functional system performance testing in new construction or retro-commissioning, an asset
-
Measurement and analysis activities
-

Proficiency in MS Office Suite
-
Marine, offshore oil and gas drilling or naval vessel experience, or submarine experience would be considered a strong asset
-
Proof of fully vaccinated status against COVID-19, meaning receipt of the full series of a COVID-19 vaccine approved by the Government of Canada with the final dose at least 14 days prior to the expected start date

Eligible for a Canadian Secret Security Clearance, NATO, ITAR and Controlled Goods clearance also required

Salary from $102,000 - $116,000 per annum and participation in Babcock Canada’s discretionary bonus plan per company policy
