The role
As an Entry Level Systems Engineer, you’ll be joining our team at a pivotal moment in the Skynet programme supporting the replenishment of infrastructure that underpins secure satellite communications for defence. You’ll be part of a team that ensures the operational integrity of critical systems, contributing to national security and global defence missions.

This is a fantastic opportunity to start your engineering career in a fast-paced, high-impact environment. You’ll gain hands-on experience, receive structured training over 18 months, and work alongside experienced professionals who will support your development every step of the way.

Day-to-day you’ll be:

•    Completing routine and scheduled maintenance of satellite systems to ensure optimal performance.
•    Reacting to system alarms and anomalies, diagnosing faults, and resolving issues to maintain operational capability.
•    Assisting with fault reports and accurately recording maintenance activities.
•    Following health and safety and radiation policies to ensure safe working practices.
•    Supporting both first-line and second-line maintenance tasks within the Skynet network.

The role is based onsite at SGS Colerne, and the set working times are Monday to Friday, totalling 37 hours per week.

Essential experience of the Entry Level Systems Engineer:
•    A good foundation in technical knowledge within the systems engineering field. 
•    Experience maintaining and diagnosing faults in communication equipment. 
•    Familiarity with safety procedures and working safely. 
•    Proficiency in Microsoft Office software. 
•    Strong organisational skills and the ability to work independently.

Qualifications for the Entry Level Systems Engineer:
•    GCSE or equivalent at Grade C or above in Maths, English, and a science-based subject.

Security Clearance

The successful candidate must be a sole UK national who is able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.
