The role

As a High Volume Pump Instructor, you’ll deliver specialist training to London Fire Brigade personnel, equipping them with the confidence and capability to operate high‑volume pumping equipment during major emergencies. Your expertise will directly support the safety and resilience of London’s communities.

 

Day-to-day, you’ll be:

 

  • Delivering practical training sessions on the safe and effective operation of high‑volume pumps, including initial and refresher training.
  • Assessing learner performance and providing clear, supportive feedback to help personnel develop operational competence.
  • Maintaining current technical knowledge and personal readiness to deliver high‑quality instruction.
  • Ensuring all training is delivered safely, raising and reporting equipment issues, hazards or incidents where required.
  • Supporting learner welfare and escalating concerns through the appropriate channels.

 

Please note that the successful candidate will be required to pass a targeted medical questionnaire and/or medical examination as a condition of employment for this role.

 

This is a zero hour contract, working a minimum of 2 days per month on site at our London locations.

 

Essential experience of the High Volume Pump Instructor:

  • Hands‑on experience operating high‑volume pumping equipment in an operational or emergency services environment.
  • Previous experience delivering high‑volume pump training.
  • Experience assessing learners and delivering structured professional feedback.
  • Strong understanding of safe systems of work in training or emergency response environments.

 

Qualifications for the High Volume Pump Instructor: 

  • High Volume Pump Instructor certification (or equivalent recognised competence).
  • Level 3 teaching qualification (e.g., Award in Education & Training) or willingness to work towards it.
  • Confident using standard digital tools such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint and reporting systems.

 

Security Clearance

The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Standard (BPSS) security clearance for this role.
