The role
As a Survival Equipment Leading Technician, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. You will be responsible for the efficient supervision and provision of timely and effective preventative and corrective maintenance on all items of Survival Equipment and Aircrew Equipment Assemblies in support of the HADES contract.

Day-to-day, you will provide supervision and provision of aintenance in support of Rotary Flying Training (1FTS) working a Day/Night Shift pattern, as well as:

  • Hold Safety as a core value and contribute to the achievement of a Zero Harm and incident / injury free environment through active participation in all safety programmes relevant to the position.
  • Actively support and promote a culture of Near Miss and Error Reporting. Ensuring that all accidents and incidents are reported. Assisting in subsequent investigations.
  • Actively support and promote Environmental, Quality, Security and Health and Safety standards as defined by both the customer and Babcock Policy.
  • Ensure all maintenance activities are carried out in accordance with the appropriate standards, practices, technical publications, and procedures by competent and authorised staff.
  • Assist in identifying development needs of staff and continuous improvement to further increase the effectiveness of the department.


This role is full time and based onsite at RAF Shawbury.


Essential experience of the Survival Equipment Leading Technician:

  • Leadership responsibilities of a small team, supervising the team to arrange training for existing staff in SES equipment and use of.
  • Mentoring skills
  • Working with senior stakeholders in a similar role
  • Desirable – Military knowledge
  • Extensive knowledge of Military Engineering Publications, Documents and Procedures.
  • Previous experience in Rotary SE & AEA. (Desirable)


Qualifications for the Survival Equipment Leading Technician:

  • Formal Engineering Training in RAF Trade Group 13 or other Service / Industry equivalent. Minimum of 5 years’ experience in industry or the Armed Forces on full time Supervision of SE & AEA.
  • TQA’s in the following: Q-SE-AC or AV-MED-SE and Q-SE-NVG.
  • Have eyesight correctable to 6/6

Security Clearance

  • The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain SC Clearance.
