Shape the future of naval autonomy and lead commercial strategy on programmes that strengthen national security.
At Babcock, we’re working to create a safe and secure world, together. If you join us, you can play your part as a Senior Commercial Manager at any of our main UK locations, including Devonport Royal Dockyard, Babcock Technology Centre Bristol, or Rosyth Royal Dockyard, near Plymouth, Bristol, or Dunfermline.
As a Senior Commercial Manager, you'll join our Global Shipbuilding & Advanced Manufacturing Commercial Team, supporting the Marine sector and helping define the future of naval autonomy in the United Kingdom and international markets. This is a unique opportunity to influence strategic programmes at the forefront of defence innovation, working across research and development, business growth, bid management and contract delivery.
Operating in a fast-moving and strategically important area, you'll provide commercial leadership that helps shape business strategy, secure new opportunities and deliver long-term growth. You will be the Commercial team’s key representative with accountabilities to teams in R&D, pre-contract, bid and contract delivery environments, supporting a broad range of activity from strategy definition and bid governance through supplier selection and product / IP definition.
Day-to-day, you’ll be required to:
- Leading commercial strategy across naval autonomy and future capability opportunities.
- Supporting business growth, bid and delivery teams to develop commercially robust solutions.
- Managing stakeholder relationships across Babcock, customers, partners and industry bodies.
- Identifying, assessing and mitigating contractual and commercial risks across programmes.
- Representing Babcock at forums, working groups and governance reviews to support informed decision-making
We offer genuine flexibility, empowering you to choose a remote, hybrid, or onsite working arrangement that suits you, with the option to be based in Plymouth, Bristol, or Rosyth. While the role is primarily remote, occasional travel between sites (approximately twice per month) will be required, and we're happy to explore flexible working arrangements to support work-life balance.
Essential experience of the Senior Commercial Manager:
- Significant experience in commercial bid management within the defence sector.
- Strong knowledge of commercial strategy, contract structures and pre-contract agreements.
- Experience working with United Kingdom Ministry of Defence and international government contracting frameworks.
- Proven stakeholder management, collaboration and relationship-building skills.
- Experience managing commercial risk and supporting complex, high-value programmes.
Qualifications for the Senior Commercial Manager:
- Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel for business purposes.
