The role

As a Licensed Aircraft Engineer, you’ll join a dynamic, multi‑disciplined aviation engineering team dedicated to delivering safe, compliant, dependable aircraft. Working alongside mechanical and avionic specialists, you’ll ensure the effective generation and release to service of aircraft that support vital defence operations.

 

Day-to-day, you’ll be:

 

  • Carrying out aircraft engineering, line and depth maintenance to ensure serviceable, safe aircraft.
  • Performing release‑to‑service responsibilities in accordance with regulatory and safety requirements.
  • Providing clear technical guidance to technicians and inspectors during maintenance activities.
  • Supporting both Babcock and client stakeholders with technical insight and problem‑solving.
  • Completing engineering documentation, ensuring standards, compliance and accuracy at all times.

 

This is a full‑time role working 40 hours per week and is based on site at MOD Boscombe Down, Wiltshire.

 

Essential experience of the Licensed Aircraft Engineer:

  • Proven problem‑solving and analytical capability within an engineering environment.
  • Demonstrated leadership or mentoring experience.
  • Strong communication skills to engage effectively with colleagues and customers.
  • Ability to prioritise, simplify complexity and use sound judgement in operational decisions.
  • Knowledge of composite materials and MoD engineering procedures/documentation.

 

Qualifications for the Licensed Aircraft Engineer:

  • EASA Part 66 B1 licence.
  • Supervisory experience in a civil or military aviation environment.
  • Ability to demonstrate required practical and theoretical engineering standards.
  • Full UK driving licence.
  • (Desirable) Type rating on Grob 115E aircraft and Lycoming 360 engines.

 

Security Clearance

The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Disclosure and Barring Service Check (DBS) / Counter Terrorist Check (CTC) security clearance for this role.
