The Business

This is a really exciting opportunity to become an Apprentice Welder at Babcock’s Rosyth site and work on some of the largest and most complex Engineering projects.

 The Role

For the first year, you will study full time at college, working towards your SVQ2 and NC. After this, for the following 3 years, you will work Monday-Thursday at Babcock’s Rosyth Dockyard and learn what it’s like to be part of a time in a real life working environment.

As a Welder apprentice you will be trained to use a variety of hand skills and welding , grinding & burning equipment to undertake a range of welding & fabricating operations relating to internal and customer projects within Rosyth Business Park.

 This entails the functionality and use of various welding plant & processes on numerous materials as determined by our customers requirements.

 Our apprentice starting salary for this position is £10,665. Successful completion of each year of your apprenticeship results in a salary increase, with a tradespersons salary of £28,414 on offer if awarded a contract upon completion of your training programme.

 The Person – Qualifications & Requirements

First and foremost, we want you to be excited and passionate about starting an apprenticeship within Babcock and eager to learn skills within your chosen trade.

 We are looking for exceptional apprentices with a positive, can do attitude. On top of this, we would also expect you to have a minimum of 5 National 5s Grade C or above (5 Standard Grades Grade 3 or above) including Maths, English and at least one other scientific or technical subject.

In return, you will be put through your Modern Apprenticeship in your chosen trade and our commitment is to encourage all apprentices to achieve an HNC.  

 Please note, to be successful in this position, you must be able to satisfy the Ministry of Defence security requirements and you will also be required to undertake a medical assessment.
