We are responsible for manufacturing 22 tactical missile tube assemblies as part of the common missile compartment (CMC) project for the UK Successor and US Ohio Class replacement submarine programmes. This highly specialised, internationally significant work is part of the second phase of the project at Rosyth and places Babcock as a critical supplier of missile tube assemblies, utilising our core skills and expertise delivering part of a programme to support the future deterrent submarines for both the UK and US Navies.
 
The role
As a Welder, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. If you can bring technical skills and a safe working attitude, then we can provide you with one of the most exciting engineering projects this country has to offer.
 
Day-to-day, you will safely perform welding and welding related tasks in a production environment supporting the Successor Project.

 

Key Tasks and Activities:

  • Follow standard operating procedures in the safe set up and operation of welding plant
  • Carry out welding tasks in accordance with the essential variables 
  • Visual inspection of completed welds to contract acceptance standards and project requirements
  • Maintain welding plant functionality
  • Carry out daily machine checks, ensuring that any fault is reported immediately
  • Continually improve processes where required
  • Safely set up and remove any pre-heating equipment
  • Use of digital and thermal temperature recording devices
  • Control of welding consumables tiles in production environments

 

The role covers but not limited to:

  • SMAW process
  • GMAW-P process
  • GTAW process
  • SAW process
  • Arc Air Gouging
  • Grinding/Burning
  • Basic Visual Inspection
  • Control of welding consumables

 

This role full-time and is based onsite at Rosyth. You will follow the working time shift pattern, including days and nights, and this will include an additional shift premium. We are happy to discuss this in more detail. 
 

Essential experience of the Welder

  • Indentured Welder
  • An understanding of weld defects and causes
  • Perform set up procedures for all welding equipment and accessories to be used on projects
  • Experience with pulsed MIG is ideal or MIG and TIG.


Qualifications of the Welder

  • WPS Adherence
  • Indentured Welder

The successful candidate must be a sole UK national who is able to achieve and maintain  Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.
