The role
As a Ship Delivery Project Manager, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. You will play a pivotal role in the delivery of the Type 31 Ship 4 programme — one of the UK’s flagship naval projects shaping the future of defence and maritime capability. This is an exciting opportunity to lead a high‑profile engineering project that directly contributes to national security, while growing your career within complex project delivery and marine engineering.
Day‑to‑day, you’ll be required to:
- Lead and manage an integrated project team spanning Engineering, Safety, Commercial, Procurement, Supply Chain, Production, and Project Controls.
- Oversee planning, monitoring and control activities, ensuring the project delivers on scope, time, cost and quality.
- Manage customer and stakeholder interfaces, including identifying risks, proposing solutions and driving effective responses.
- Provide clear governance, establishing roles, responsibilities and reporting structures that maintain strong project oversight.
- Produce and present monthly performance reports, highlighting progress, corrective actions and any deviations.
This role is full time, 37 hours per week and is based on site at Rosyth.
Essential experience of the Ship Delivery Project Manager
- Strong experience delivering complex projects within a similar engineering, marine, defence or construction environment.
- Full project lifecycle experience, from bid stage through to project close‑out.
- Proven capability managing projects of significant complexity across multiple disciplines.
- Understanding of contracting methodologies such as NEC, JCT or similar.
- Broad awareness of functions supporting major project delivery (engineering, commercial, planning, supply chain, SHEQ).
Qualifications for the Ship Delivery Project Manager
- A bachelor’s degree in engineering, project management, construction management or a related field.
- A postgraduate qualification or membership of a recognised professional body - desirable
- Working towards APM Chartered Project Professional (ChPP) status or planning to obtain it within 12 months - desirable
Security Clearance
The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.
