The role
As a T31 Project Manager you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. You’ll be at the heart of one of the UK’s most exciting naval programmes. The Type 31 frigate – also known as the Inspiration-class – is a cutting-edge, adaptable warship designed to support global maritime operations. Built for agility, innovation, and international collaboration, the T31 is a symbol of modern naval capability. 

 

Day to day, you’ll drive delivery across safety, scope, schedule, finance, risk, quality, and resources, ensuring we meet our commitments to the customer. You'll develop and lead cross-functional project delivery teams—bringing together expertise from Project Management and Controls, Engineering, SHEQ, Commercial, Procurement, and Supply Chain. These teams will collaborate to define, plan, monitor, and control the successful delivery of the project. You’ll also manage key customer interfaces and stakeholder relationships, proactively identifying and mitigating project risks through effective planning and response strategies. Your leadership will drive world-class performance by fostering employee engagement, championing continuous improvement, and implementing the latest technology.

 

  • Establish and maintain governance arrangements for project delivery, ensuring clearly defined roles, responsibilities, and accountabilities
  • Build and manage effective relationships with project stakeholders to support successful outcomes
  • Commit to and continuously monitor the programme baseline, including cost, schedule, and risk
  • Coordinate project activities and dependencies, while identifying and managing external dependencies across other projects, resources, or environments
  • Oversee third-party suppliers to ensure alignment with programme objectives and successful delivery

 

This role is full time, 37 hours per week and offered on a 52-Week Fixed-Term contract basis. 

 

Essential experience of the Project Manager

  • Worked on projects of varying products, services and lifecycle phases.
  • Awareness of various contracting methodologies (e.g. FIDIC/NEC/JCT)
  • Cross functional awareness of lifecycle requirements for supporting functions 

 

Qualifications for the Project Manager

  • NEC ECC Project Manager Accreditation (or equivalent)
  • APM Project Management Qualification (PMQ)
  • Project Risk Management Course
  • APM Project Planning and Controls – Foundation - preferable

The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain BPSS checks for this role.
