The role

As a Nuclear Security Specialist, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. You’ll safeguard operations on a nuclear licensed site and help deliver the UK’s Submarine Dismantling Project - work that supports national security and environmental responsibility. You’ll set, maintain and continuously improve security arrangements, partnering with colleagues and Ministry of Defence stakeholders to ensure regulatory compliance and robust risk management. Day‑to‑day you’ll be required to:

 

  • Develop and maintain Rosyth security policies and written arrangements to meet nuclear site regulatory conditions.
  • Advise and support the Submarine Dismantling Project, ensuring appropriate security controls for laid‑up submarines and whole‑boat disposal activities.
  • Act as the subject matter expert on security issues, providing clear guidance to project teams and stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with site security, project security specialists and Ministry of Defence partners to drive compliance and continuous improvement.
  • Produce and review documentation, reports and improvements that strengthen security governance and assurance.

 

This role is full time, 36 hours per week Monday to Friday and provides hybrid working arrangements with 3 days in the office/onsite and 2 days working from home.

 

Essential experience of the Nuclear Security Specialist

  • Significant experience in a role with accountability for organisational security.
  • Experience advising on security for equipment procurement and facility maintenance.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the confidence to influence stakeholders.
  • Ability to make sound decisions and work independently in a safe, effective manner.

Security Clearance

The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.
