The role
As a Health Physicist, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. Joining our Health Physics team, you will have a hands-on role in developing an onsite emergency plan to demonstrate compliance to REPPIR regulations. 

 

Day-to-day, you’ll work with internal and external stakeholders, including the MOD to develop hazard evaluation and consequence assessments to ensure adequate coverage across future nuclear activities across at our Rosyth site. 

 

  • Conduct modelling activities on the impact of future nuclear projects on the public and environment including dispersion, inhalation, cloud immersion, ground deposition, ingestion and public dose assessments. 
  • Provide guidance, advice and technical support to the local authority on the development of the offsite emergency plan including the detailed planning zone and outline planning zone to ensure a consistent approach to REPPIR.
  • Implement and embed our businesses policies for radiological safety into nuclear related projects to ensure regulatory compliance with IRR17, EA(S)R18 and any additional specific nuclear site licence conditions where applicable.
  • Produce radiological safety assessments and studies for nuclear related projects at our Rosyth site, providing advice on the design of plant, equipment and processes to ensure radiological safety.

 

This role is full time, at 36 hours per week and is based at our Rosyth, Fife site. This role provides hybrid working arrangements with up to 1 - 2 days per week onsite and 3-4 days working from home, flexibility is given within this role. 

 

Essential experience of the Health Physicist 

  • You will be a subject matter expert in Radiological Safety with the ability to advise on radiological safety controls, such as radiation shielding, ventilation system design, containment systems, monitoring arrangements, area designation, dosimetry, and contingency and emergency arrangements. 
  • Be a clear and concise communicator enabling you to build key relationships and influence all level of internal annex external stakeholders.
  • You will either already be or happy and able become a subject matter expert in REPPIR to identify any required change within our process and provide technical advice.
  • Able to identify hazards and consequences for any proposed designs and operations within nuclear related projects. 
  • Previously implemented radiological safeguards and mitigations into the design of new facilities and/or processes, ensuring that they have been fully embedded within the scope of work.

 

Qualifications for the Health Physicist 

  • Degree in a relevant scientific or engineering discipline. 
  • Ideally you will hold or be working towards Radiological Protection Advisor (RPA) status.

 

Security Clearance

The successful candidate must be a sole UK national who is able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) and  Naval Nuclear Propulsion Information (NNPPI) security clearance for this role.
