The role
As a Head of SHE for Marine Shipbuilding you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. You will provide leadership, guidance and direction in the provision of Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) in the Marine sector, ensuring the application of ‘best practice’ and the development of an engaged Health & Safety culture throughout the workforce.
Day to day, your responsibility will be to ensure the operational delivery teams understand, own and are accountable for HSE within the work environment and establish an engaged safety culture across the sector.
- Create an environment of timely collective continuous improvement across the Marine Sector
- Proactively engage and build relationships within the Marine Sector management teams at all levels to influence the ownership and accountability for health, safety and environmental performance.
- Effectively lead, develop and line manage the SHE Shipbuilding team across the business unit within the Marine sector.
- Align business unit HSE improvement activities with the Marine Sector and Group HSE strategy and priorities.
- Provide expert advice and direction to the Business unit’s management teams on current and future HSE legislation, guidance and practices to ensure continual improvement.
- Advise operations on risk registers, policies and procedures to ensure successful control of HSE risk.
- Proactively engage with operational employees to develop and influence an engaged (just, reporting, flexible, questioning and learning) HSE culture within the business unit.
This role is full time 37 hours and will be based at one of our locations: Rosyth. The role offers hybrid working arrangements.
Essential experience of the Head of SHE for Marine Shipbuilding
- Experience of proactively engaging with Senior, Contract and Site management to improve HSE
- Experience of delivering a high standard of compliance and exceptional health and safety improvement track record
- Candidates must have a track record of embedding H&S behavioural change
- Multi-Site HSE experience both UK & overseas.
- Extensive knowledge of ISO14001 and ISO45001
Qualifications for the Head of SHE for Marine Shipbuilding
- Level 5 or 6 Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety Management (NEBOSH or BSC)
- Level 3 qualification in Environmental Management and Assessment - (Desirable)
- Chartered Membership of the Institution of Occupational Safety or other appropriate discipline - (Desirable)
