The role
As a Buyer, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. You’ll be part of an incredible, diverse, and inclusive team of talented professionals, bringing specialist knowledge, management skills, and technical expertise across a wide range of products, technologies, and collaborative solutions - supporting both our internal and external customers.
Day-to-day, you’ll oversee the Hire Desk while supporting our Procurement and Supply Chain team, handling everything from customer inquiries to final collection or delivery. You’ll process hire contracts, manage availability, and coordinate equipment schedules, all while fostering strong supplier and stakeholder relationships to ensure seamless operations. Additionally, you will:
- Support the Buying team with transactional Purchasing & Supply Chain activities, including raising purchase orders, order book management, expediting, supplier maintenance, and basic Request for Quotation (RFQ) tasks.
- Ensure compliance with established procurement procedures and policies.
- Embed within the Site Facilities/Infrastructure Team, working in a fast-paced environment with engagement across various teams and stakeholders.
- Manage supplier relationships, ensuring smooth coordination of goods and services procurement.
- Gain exposure to a variety of procurement activities, providing an excellent entry point into a Procurement & Supply Chain team committed to professional growth and development.
This role is full time, 36 hours per week and provides hybrid working arrangements.
Essential experience of the Buyer
- A strong understanding of purchasing principles and practices, with the potential to be studying for CIPS.
- In-depth knowledge of purchasing methods, systems, and approaches, with responsibility for managing a supplier review schedule and implementing processes for an allocated supplier group.
- A combination of analytical, planning, and leadership skills to support effective procurement activities.
- Proven experience engaging with Preferred Suppliers and Stakeholders, alongside a strong background in negotiations and cost savings.
- Ability to manage Service Level Agreements, ensuring supplier performance and compliance.
Qualifications for the Buyer
- Ideally, a degree-level qualification or equivalent through relevant work experience.
- MCIPS qualification or actively working towards MCIPS or an equivalent professional certification (desirable).
