Learning Support Co-ordinator – Part-time 24 hours p/week

About the role


Babcock operates a significant outsourced contract for the provision of education and training services to the Royal Navy. The training services comprise of Naval technical and tactical training and education, delivered by Babcock trainers as well as training support. The contract is entering an exciting new phase with renewed focus on training innovation, optimisation and collaborative working and this role will provide the support and drive to achieve successful deliver of all aspects of the contract in this new phase.


Reporting to the Babcock Team Leader (LDO Online and Distance Learning Manager) the role will be responsible for the high quality of support to the Learning and Development service provision as required by the Royal Navy functional line manager.  Working within a Naval Service Learning and Development Hub (L&D Hub) and associated headquarters, the role holder will deliver the main tasks indicated below whilst maintaining high level quality assurance in line with company standards and contractual requirements.


The role is a part-time (24 hours) contract permanent position based in Portsmouth. A flexible working pattern will be considered to suit the right candidate. All necessary job-specific training will be provided. Once in the role, you will be offered numerous job related development opportunities.


Major Tasks and Activities


Support activities in the Learning and Development Organisation Headquarters (LDO HQ)

  • Support with the coordination of applications and enrolments for the RN University Short Courses scheme; liaison with the relevant Universities
  • Administration of the LDO Online and Distance Learning statistical information, invigilation observations and feedback forms
  • Monitoring statistical information against set auditable parameters
  • Transferring learners’ accounts and exams’ tokens for the LDO eLearning Centres
  • Maintaining accurate records and support general office administration duties
  • Support with the coordination of applications for the Greenwich Bursary Awards
  • Administering pre-supply exams for the LDO City&Guilds accredited centres
  • To act as support POC for LDO Ops officers regarding travel arrangements informing COS of movements and liaising with the travel cell as required
  • To act as a coordinator and administrator for the L3AET/PTSI/ERO courses, liaising with the learning providers, distributing learning materials and managing bookings for micro-teach assessments
  • Assisting the LDO Online and Distance Learning Manager, LDO Internal Quality Assurer/Functional Skills Coordinator with other delegated activities as required

Support the running of the Learning & Development Hub (L&DH) and the provision of LDH services

  • Invigilation of the Ofqual regulated and non-regulated assessments and examinations, including, but not limited to the Functional Skills and ECDL examinations and DCAT assessments
  • Providing initial advice and guidance (induction) to the LDO customers
  • Maintaining learners’ records and filing
  • Supporting the delivery of eLearning Services
  • Assisting Portsmouth Hub’s eLearning Advisors with other delegated activities as required
  • Liaise with other L&D Hub staff in order to enable support for the learners



What do I need to do the role?


  • English qualification @ minimal GCSE level grade A-C or equivalent
  • Maths qualification @ minimal GCSE level grade A-C or equivalent
  • IT Skills @ min Level 2 (ECDL) or equivalent
  • Ability to obtain SC and Enhance DBS clearance
  • Ability to effectively communicate and use customer service skills
  • Office and Business Administration skills
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills
  • Experience in Adult Education
  • Experience in exams’ invigilation
  • Supporting Functional Skills provision
  • Providing ECDL support
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office SharePoint Services (MOSS) information platform and/or Microsoft Office 365 platform
  • Full driving licence
  • IT qualification @ Level 3
