About the Role
Here at Babcock International we’re looking several Weapon System Engineers to join us at HMNB Devonport, one of the largest naval bases in Western Europe. We’re a key strategic partner to our customers; the MOD and the Royal Navy. We ensure that the UK Royal Navy goes to sea safely by supporting them in Devonport and around the world.


The Weapons Systems Engineering Group (WSEG) is a multi-disciplined group within our Submarine Business Unit that carries out the Installation, STW and Trials of Weapon Systems fitted to Royal Navy Ships and Submarines. As a Weapon System Engineer you will work as part of a multi-disciplined team carrying out on-board commissioning of ships or submarines in Up-Keep and also Operational Support.


If you are an enthusiatic team-player able to demonstrate a good working knowledge of installation, commissioning and defect rectification on equipment / external communication systems on Warships/Submarines, then we would like you to join us in one of the following areas:

  • External Communication Systems on Warships/Submarines including V/UHF, HF, secure speech, antennas and message handling systems.
  • Above Water Weapons Engineers
  • Sonar Engineers
  • EW / Radar Engineers.

 

What do I need to do the role?
You’ll have an ONC or equivalent in an Engineering / Technical discipline or significant relevant experience gained in a similar position. Proven experience of rectifying operational defects on external communication systems on platforms in fleet-time is also highly desirable.

 

We would also like you to have some or all of the following Royal Navy WE equipment experience:

 

  • Warships GWS60, GSA8, DLH, MTLS, ASCG, NCS1. RN Submarine Fire Control or Navigation.
  • S2050, S2008/9, S2054, S2076, HVME, SSE, SAWCS, ES800, Misc Sonars.
  • Warships UAT, ESM, Decoys, Surveillance / Navigation Radars. RN Submarine ESM / Radar.
  • RN WE equipment such as Warships and/or Submarine External Communication Equipments.

 

Additionally there are further opportunities for candidates with experience and knowledge of External Communication Systems including V/UHF, HF, secure speech, antennas and message handling systems.

 

What else do I need to know?

  • The successful candidate will hold, or be eligible to acquire, national Security Clearance at the appropriate level for this post
  • Additional hours may be required to support the RN platforms worldwide (CONDO)
  • Passport, Licence and qualification documents must be shown at interview stage
  • Applications are particulary welcome from RN and Service Leavers. Previous experience is desirable but for the right applicant in house and off site training will be provided
