About the role

 

Here at Babcock International we are supporting the Government’s plans to renew the UK’s independent strategic nuclear deterrent through the replacement of the four Vanguard Class Submarines with the new successor, the Dreadnought Class Submarine. The Dreadnought design and build programme is amongst the most complex ever undertaken by British industry. The new design of submarine is being developed jointly be the Ministry of Defence and its three Tier 1 industrial participants – Babcock, BAE Systems and Rolls-Royce.

 

The Dreadnought Programme is the largest in Defence with a budget of £34 billion, which will ensure that our nuclear deterrent is operational 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Babcock are charged with ensuring that the Dreadnought Submarines and the support arrangements are delivered. We have three primary functions within the Dreadnought Programme; influencing the design of the submarine, developing an in-service support solution, and ensuring the submarine can be maintained within safe operating limits.

 

Babcock have been the maritime trainer of choice for the Royal Navy over the last 2 decades and provide a significant outsourced contract for the provision of education and training services to the Royal Navy. The training services comprise of naval technical and tactical training and apprenticeship programmes. As the Navy’s capability is constantly evolving, we need a highly skilled team to ensure the training we deliver is fit for purpose.

 

Therefore, we are looking to recruit a Training Programme Manager to provide the leadership and management to develop and deliver the initial definition of the training programme, including all of the Training Needs Analysis (TNA) and courseware design related deliverables, as required for Babcock Marine Training’s element of the Dreadnought Programme and other major Defence projects.
 
Main Tasks:
 

  • Lead and deliver all activities to the time, cost and performance criteria as articulated in new Defence Platform Design and Build Contracts.
  • Provide TNA and other SME guidance to the client regarding the conduct of the activity.
  • Manage the Training Plans that articulate the conduct of the TNA and subsequent design activity.
  • Deliver a Scoping Exercise Report taking into account all Defence Line of Development activity.
  • Coordinate and produce role analysis activity incorporating Role Performance Statements that detail Performance, Conditions and Standards and DIF analysis.
  • Conduct a Training Gap Analysis including identification of Residual Training Gap.
  • Undertake Training Options Analysis including fidelity analysis.
  • Maximise people resource utilisation through effective scheduling and resource planning to ensure that operational commitments are met.
  • Support provision of Project Plan reports and updates.
  • Attend review meetings when required.

 
What do I need to do the role?
 
You will have expert knowledge of the UKs Defence Systems Approach to Training (DSAT) and a proven project management experience. You will have expertise in conducting a complex Training Needs Analysis (TNA), excellent understanding of the UK Defence maritime training environment, and experience in the participation of similar national/international contracts.

 

You will have experience with hands on analysis, proven ability to deliver objectives in complex multi-stakeholder environment and proven track record of success within a large commercial business on a KPI regime.

 

Lastly, you will have excellent communications and relationship building ability with good working knowledge of MS Office
 
What else do I need to know?
 
You will work 37 hours per week Monday to Friday with flexible working and you must be able to achieve the appropriate level of Security Clearance.

 

There will be a requirement for significant travel within the UK.
