Working as part of our Defence Systems Technology (DST) business we’re looking for a Systems Engineer (Information Systems) to join us. DST forms a critical part of Babcock’s Marine organisation. Working across a range of exciting design, manufacture and support projects, our 1,500 strong team operate from a number of sites across the UK and internationally ensuring our global customer portfolio is always supported.

 

Defence Systems Technology (DST) is transforming and we need you to support our key leaders in forging new paths, leading their teams through exciting, but sometimes challenging change. Our Mission Systems, Information Systems business provides support to the MoD and Partners Across Government (PAG) for various communications, Signals Intelligence (SIGNIT), Situation Awareness (SA) and engineering services projects.

 

The International Council for Systems Engineers defines Systems Engineering as a transdisciplinary and integrative approach to enable the successful realization, use, and retirement of engineered systems, using systems principles and concepts, and scientific, technological, and management methods.

 

As part of our team, you will be the primary interface between management, customers, suppliers, and specialty engineers in the systems development process for the tasks you are assigned.  The ability and drive to think with a systems perspective, as defined by INCOSE, is key in this role.

 

You will support on both in service design changes as well as new concept design and installation on a variety of cutting edge technologies for our clients. Using your expert knowledge you will provide in depth support across Requirements Elicitation, Architectural Design, Concept Generation, Functional Analysis and Design Integrity.

Role requirements

 

  • You will need to have extensive experience in a technical discipline as detailed in the ‘What do I need for this role’ section, and have the gravitas to work within a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Internal and external stakeholder engagement for the elicitation and acceptance of User and System requirements.
  • Requirements analysis and management throughout the SE lifecycle in accordance with ISO/IEC/IEEE 29148.
  • Create and manage interface specifications and certificates
  • Produce boundary views and identify ownership across the System of Interest (SoI), Wider Systems of Interest (WSoI) and its environment.
  • Derive design requirements and specify technical requirements as part of procurement activities
  • Maintain configuration control of the tasking and product breakdown structure and associated technical documentation in accordance with the requirements of Def Stan 05-57.
  • Undertake technical management of internal and external sub-contractors with levels of delegated authority.
  • Support to bids and proposals for new business development, feasibility studies and technical roadmaps.

What do I need to do the role?

 

  • Demonstrate a drive to deliver results on time, meeting cost and quality targets, taking ownership of problems / issues whilst working diligently towards a resolution;
  • Be proactive and capable of operating with minimal supervision;
  • Be a good communicator, both written and oral, and able to liaise at all levels with customers/stakeholders;
  • Minimum Level 4 (HNC) qualification in a relevant Engineering Discipline, in concert with significant and demonstrable subject matter expertise in the systems engineering domain as defined by the International Council of Systems Engineers (INCOSE).
  • Be conversant with the standards relating to the Systems Engineering discipline (e.g. ISO/IEC/IEEE15288)

 

Domain knowledge in at least one or more of the following areas:

 

  • ICT Networks
  • Software and hardware architecture design
  • Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR);
  • Communications Electronic Support Measures (CESM);
  • RADAR Electronic Support Measures (RESM);
  • Military external communications;
  • Military communications networks (WAN and LAN);
  • Electronic Warfare (EW) systems;
  • Command and control systems;
  • Combat systems

 

What else do I need to know?

 

• The role will be based at our Devonport (Plymouth) site.

• There may be requirements to visit our sites in Bristol and Tewkesbury, as well as customer locations as dictated by the task.
