The Health Physics Operations Group (HPOG) supports all work with ionising radiation within Devonport Royal Dockyard, including the repair and maintenance activities on Royal Navy’s submarines and associated facilities. The overall department direction of the HPOG is to lead, manage and provide a customer focussed radiation protection service, where all staff are competent, decisions are consistent and everyone ensures compliance with regulations.


Who we are looking for?
We are currently looking for a Trainer to lead, manage and provide a customer focussed radiation protection service, where all staff are competent, decisions are consistent and everyone ensures compliance with regulations.


What will you be doing?

•    To develop, deliver and assess the Health Physics training and refresher program in support of the Health Physics Operations Group in line with local and corporate polices and arrangements

•    To produce and develop, review and update Health Physics training material and Health Physics Standards 

•    Provide formal training, support and assessment to Health Physics staff - this shall include tutoring and briefing on training programs and revised methodology & procedures 

•    Take primarily responsibility for the management of training for an assigned group of Trainee Health Physics monitor. Providing guidance, support and taking corrective action where necessary to enable trainees to progress and achieve the required training standard and timescale. Fulfilling the role of Apprentice Development Manger to said group of trainees.

The experience you’ll bring

This role requires a candidate to meet the 2 following criteria, however the role is open as a developmental role to a candidate meeting only 1: 
•    Operational knowledge and practitioner experience of practical application of radiological protection practice 

•    Operational knowledge and practitioner experience of developmental, delivery and assessment of training


Additional criteria: 
•    Experience associated with submarine nuclear steam raising plant, associated shore side facilities and onsite radioactive waste management practices
•    Numerate and scientifically based


You will need to satisfy security requirements. This may require you to hold or be eligible/capable of achieving ‘Security Check’ (SC) clearance.
