The Senior Mechanical Design Engineer role is based within our Mission Systems business area.

The role

 

The difference our new Senior Mechanical Design Engineer will make

 

As a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. Lead mechanical engineering activities ranging from obsolescence changes, 3D Printing or upgrading naval platform capability across all contracts (4.5” Gun, Phalanx, Gun System Automation 9, T31 Gunnery and future bid opportunities). You will be a critical part of ensuring the Royal Navy has the weaponry capability it needs.

 

Day to day, you’ll develop design task proposals, requirements and verification activities from a customer statement of need, performing root cause analysis of failures to identify improvements, managing tasks from concept through to implementation to defined safety standards, cost, programme and quality as an individual or as part of a team. You’ll also review and approve documentation and drawings to deliver a high-quality output, mentor developing team members and graduate engineers, communicate and present technical information to internal and external stakeholders and improve Team Processes and Tools.

Essential experience

 

•    Degree Qualified

•    Chartered Engineer status or evidence of progression towards Chartered Engineer status.
