About the role
We’re looking for a Senior Estimator to join us at HMNB Devonport, one of the largest naval bases in Western Europe. We are proud to be the UK’s leading submarine support provider.  We are entrusted with the upkeep and deep maintenance of our Nation’s submarines, which have been compared to the space shuttle in terms of complexity, and are one of the most challenging engineering projects undertaken in the UK.  


Whilst we continue to provide the Royal Navy with safe, highly capable Vanguard and Trafalgar classes of submarine, we are also preparing for the future.  The Astute class represents the largest, most advanced and most powerful attack submarines ever operated by the Royal Navy.  This is a great time to be part of our team, with the new challenges and a significant increase in our future workload this new class will bring.  This is critical work that requires the very best people. 


As a Senior Estimator you will be part of a Business Support team that is integral to the success of our submarines business. Working within a dynamic project environment you’ll be responsible for the management of a team Functional Estimators in the production of multi-disciplined Labour estimates derived from Work Specification, Drawings and Site (boat) visits. Your leadership and team outputs will be key to the successful delivery of Submarine contracts and the capture of additional or emergent work required during the Project Execution Phase of our Submarine maintenance projects. 
Combining your enquiring approach and analytical skills, you will provide insightful management information which will support senior management decision making.  You will continually develop the capabilities within your team and strive to develop and maintain a high performing estimating and cost analysis function, utilising the most up to date tools and techniques.


What do I need to do the role?
You’ll hold a minimum of HNC in an Engineering, Economics, Mathematical or Business discipline (or recognised equivalent in Project Management) and have demonstrable experience of Cost Estimating, Cost and Data Analysis and Cost Modelling and Assurance.


We would also like you to have some or all of the following:
•    Strong leadership skills and team management/development experience.
•    Ability to formulate costs and relate these to actual activities across trades.
•    Highly proficient in Microsoft Office applications and estimating software.
•    The ability to interpret written engineering specifications and technical drawings.
•    Methodical and thorough with a challenging mind and problem solving abilities.

Lastly, you’ll be highly numerate with good interpersonal skills and effective communication skills, both written and verbal. You’ll possess strong stakeholder management in situations of competing priorities and enjoy working in a busy and dynamic environment.
What else do I need to know?
•    The successful candidate will need to satisfy Ministry of Defence security requirements. This may require you to hold or be eligible/capable of achieving ‘Security Check’ (SC) clearance.
