About the role

A new Senior Engineer, reporting to the Principal Engineer, is required to be hired to support the Mechanical Handling Group EC&I technical team in providing their Design and Technical Authority responsibilities to the business. The primary purpose of the Senior EC&I Engineer within the Technical Authority is to provide expert technical advice on a number of C&I systems on Mechanical Handling equipment and plant. The Senior EC&I Engineer is responsible to the Principal Engineer for the provision of technical support and advice on maintaining the design intent of existing C&I systems and equipment. The role will initially focus on providing support to the Submarine Defuel Delivery Project (SDDP).

 

What do I need to be able to do the role?

You will need to have a background in the design of Electrical Control and Instrumentation, including experience with PLC control systems. The role is split into 2 parts, firstly providing technical support for all of the Mechanical Handling assets within the dockyard and secondly to provide a design consultancy function of the department where the activities are generally focused on the provision of new, or modification to existing C&I designs.

  • Comprehensive understanding of electrical engineering principles for developing and maintaining C&I systems;
  • In-depth experience of designing C&I systems;
  • Extensive knowledge of hardware-based control logic;
  • Proficiency in understanding electrical engineering drawings;

Lastly you will need an awareness of software-based control systems (including PLCs and embedded software) and awareness of analogue and digital instrumentation

 

What else do I need to know?

  • All applicants must have the legal right to work in the UK and be subject to satisfactory security clearance which includes 3 years reference checks. Verification of any qualifications/passport/licences must be shown at interview stage.
  • The role is predominantly desk based (a mix of office and home working) but will entail access to industrial areas (including radiologically controlled areas) across the Dockyard.
  • The successful candidate will need to satisfy Ministry of Defence security requirements. This may require you to hold or be eligible/capable of achieving ‘Security Check’ (SC) clearance.
