About the Role.
Here at Babcock International we’re looking for a SSI Process Workstream Lead to join us at HMNB Devonport, one of the largest naval bases in Western Europe. We’re a key strategic partner to our customers; the MOD and the Royal Navy. We ensure that the UK Royal Navy goes to sea safely by supporting them in Devonport and around the world, delivering complex ship and submarine sustainment programmes and applying our core strengths of technology and expertise to sustain critical and complex assets to help maintain national security.
The SSI Programme is a high visibility project at Devonport and currently has two Workstreams that are managed and delivered by Babcock.


As an SSI Process Workstream Lead you’ll be working in an exciting environment during the deep upkeep maintenance of Royal Navy warships. You’ll deliver a collection of associated projects (known as Workstreams) ensuring they achieve their stated objectives within costs and schedule constraints and to the required quality.

 

Using your working knowledge and experience of Marine Engineering, T23 Upkeeps and maintenance, the supply chain that supports upkeeps and the wider Dockyard environment your main tasks will be to:

  • Identify new cost savings- from a range of sources e.g. own analysis/ stakeholder requirements/ staff reward & recognition scheme.
  • Supervise a team of approx. 6 change managers to creation of cost saving initiatives that generate tangible savings.
  • Supervise a team of approx. 6 change managers to then implement savings under specific projects.
  • Ensure that the operation is fully bought in the changes- using issue and risk registers proactively, as well as gate approval reviews.
  • Communicate the intent and progress of projects to a range of stakeholders- from shop floor staff to directors- via verbal and written means (e.g. presentations)

 

 

What do I need to do the role?

You'll be educated to Degree level in a relevant engineering discipline, have substantial demonstrable Change Management experience and experience of leading teams &/or projects in an industrial environment.


We would also like you to have the following:

  • Project Management qualifications (e.g. APM/ PRINCE2)
  • Lean qualifications/experience
  • Cost saving programme experience e.g. involving the introduction of innovation

 

Lastly, you’ll need effective interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to establish good working relationships with the PM teams and the Programme’s wider stakeholder community.

 

What else do I need to know?
The successful candidate will hold, or be eligible to acquire, Security Clearance at the appropriate level for this post.
