The Project Procurement Specialist role is based within our Devonport Royal Dockyard business area.

Comprising of 14 dry docks, four miles of waterfront and 25 tidal berths, Devonport is the base for numerous surface vessels as well as the base and refit centre for the Trafalgar-class nuclear-powered submarines. Devonport has also recently been selected as the base port for the Navy’s new Type 26 frigates and will become the maintenance centre for the future submarine programme.

The role

The difference our new Project Procurement Specialist will make
As a Project Procurement Specialist , you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. Over the next decade, the Submarines business within Babcock is entering an unparalleled period of activity, with Base Maintenance, Deep Maintenance and Decommissioning programmes across multiple vessel platforms. This, coupled with the need to ensure even better performance from our extended enterprise mean that now more than ever, the P&SC Function need to take a front and centre role in the support of planning, executing and performance-managing the Supply Chain needed to help deliver programmes that are critical to the defence of our Nation

 

Day to day, you’ll establishing project requirements, including those driven by the future bid pipeline. Design and engagement of a supply chain that meets project requirements. Support the delivery of project objectives through the rigorous management of contract and supplier performance. Assure supplier performance to time, cost and quality for contract requirements against scope of supplier responsibility. You will have responsibility for typically .£10m expenditure within the project(s) scope

Essential experience

•    Qualified to degree level or equivalent
•    MCIPS or equivalent professional qualifications
•    Must be a self-starter that does not need to be closely managed - experience of managing individual projects with little supervision/management
•    Understanding of contract terms and conditions and the ability to manage subcontract terms including flow-down terms from customer contracts
•    Deep understanding of planning and implementing supply arrangements, managing supplier performance and scheduling of deliveries
•    Understanding of cost models, for example in relation to the NEC models, familiarity with accounting practices, commercial audits, forecasting and valuations and supplier costing models  
•    You will need to satisfy security requirements. This will require you to hold or be eligible/capable of achieving ‘Security Check’ (SC) clearance.
