The Project Engineer – Electrical role is based within our Devonport Royal Dockyard business area.

Comprising of 14 dry docks, four miles of waterfront and 25 tidal berths, Devonport is the base for numerous surface vessels as well as the base and refit centre for the Trafalgar-class nuclear-powered submarines. Devonport has also recently been selected as the base port for the Navy’s new Type 26 frigates and will become the maintenance centre for the future submarine programme.

The role


The difference our new Project Engineer – Electrical will make
As a Project Engineer – Electrical, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. Working on some of the most complex assets the UK own – Nuclear Submarines, the impact you’ll make will enable the schedule to proceed with the maintenance programmes and will be achieved by interrogating the work specifications and ensuring they can meet the customer demand.


Day to day, you’ll provide technical support to the contract bid preparation during the planning and execution phases - link all elements of work to comply with the requirements of the Work Breakdown Structure (WBS), maintain the appropriate project records and process emergent/additional work, including agreement the technical contractual requirement so that the work can be progressed in accordance with project schedules.

Essential experience

•    Qualified to a minimum of a Level 3 in an Electrical Engineering Discipline. (Must Have)
•    Knowledge and experience of Marine Electrical systems would be an advantage, but we would consider experience of electrical systems within other industries. 
•    Excellent communication skills and be capable of engaging effectively with internal and external customers and stakeholders.
•    Awareness in the application of Project Management Tools and how they are utilised throughout the Project Lifecycle would be beneficial.
•    Knowledge and experience of utilising MS Office packages – Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook etc. 
•    You will need to satisfy security requirements. This may require you to hold or be eligible/capable of achieving ‘Security Check’ (SC) clearance
