Overall Department Direction
We currently have an opportunity for a qualified Principal Accountant on a full time basis based in Plymouth. This role is essentially a deputy finance manager who will be taking on responsibility for the Base Maintenance Periods and Deep Maintenance Periods of the A Class Submarines. Embedded within the project team and a key member of the team with involvement at commencement of the planning phase of the A Class maintenance periods in Devonport.


Main Purpose of Role
- Oversee preparation of monthly management reporting and management packs
- Provide variance analysis and commentary on monthly results comparing with budget and forecasts
- Preparation of quarterly forecast of revenue & costs and associated project balance sheet items
- Prepare annual budgets and strategic plans
- Provide financial input to customer review meetings
- Review monthly the Project Status Reports with the Management Team and provide guidance and support to the project managers
- Provide financial assistance to major bids as required

 

Required Knowledge, Skills, Experience and Competences
- Maintain and sustain good professional working relationships with both internal and external stakeholders
- Possess strong communications skills and communicate effectively financial information to non-finance colleagues
- Make sound judgements based upon objective analysis and understanding
- Ability to challenge and influence decision making processes
- Experience of working within a project based accountancy role
- Competent in use of Microsoft packages
- Experience in using IFS desired but not essential

 

Qualifications
ACCA/CIMA Qualified

Business Area- Devonport
Babcock International Group owns and operates the main refit, maintenance and workshop area of the 330 acre naval site at Devonport, known as Devonport Royal Dockyard, where it employs thousands of people. The remainder of the site at Devonport is owned by the Ministry of Defence and is known as Her Majesty’s Naval Base (HMNB) Devonport – one of the largest naval bases in Western Europe.
