The Contracts Manager role is based within our Devonport Royal Dockyard business area.

Devonport has also recently been selected as the base port for the Navy’s new Type 26 frigates and will become the maintenance centre for the future submarine programme.

The role

The difference our new Contracts Manager will make
As a Contracts Manager you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. You will be responsible for contract management activities to ensure the financial and commercial interests of the Company are optimised. You will support the achievement of financial targets and ensure that contractual obligations and associated risks are adequately dealt with. This is a great opportunity to become part of a growing team, in a role which can be challenging but also varied and fulfilling.  We are looking for someone who understand governance, attention to detail, supporting/challenging project teams on growth opportunities, someone who has good customer experience and can provide strong responses on the questions relating to this and someone who understands the commercial role and ideally who has some line management experience.

Day to day, your responsibilities will include the preparation of commercial elements for tenders, contracts and contract amendments, which may include reviewing and drafting terms and conditions. Providing support and guidance to the business regarding pricing, terms and conditions and commercial issues as well as regulatory requirements.

 

You will support commercial discussions and negotiations with customers; prepare and review responses to contract amendments and arrange for their approval. Prepare and review proposed contractual agreements and provide support to the Supply Chain function including identifying appropriate flow down of terms and conditions.

Essential experience

•    Ideally educated to degree level or equivalent qualifications or experience in a subject related to business (including finance) or law
•    World Commerce and Contracting (WCC) (previously IACCM) or MCIPS qualifications are highly desirable (but if you don’t have these, you will be offered this training)
•    Working knowledge of MoD contract terms / Single Source Contacting Regulations is highly desirable
•    Commercially astute with an understanding of the procurement process including terms and conditions
•    The ability to make decisions within delegated authority and to work on own initiative and as part of a team
