The role

The difference our new Health and Safety Officer will make

As a Health and Safety Officer you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. This role is construction and fire specific, and you’ll be working within Fire Safety Determent and Major Infrastructure Projects business unit, at Devonport Royal Dockyard a Nuclear Licenced site.

 

Day to day, you’ll be performing regular inspections of the controls detailed in existing Fire Risk Assessments (FRAs) ensuring that fire controls are maintained.  Undertaking and maintaining FRAs ensuring compliance with Building Regulations and the Regulatory Reform. Auditing and Inspecting projects. Advising Staff on technical fire matters and monitoring the risk of fire on all projects. Undertaking of fire investigations and preparation of reports for project management teams.

 

You’ll also be involved with concept design planning and advise and assist architects, designers and project teams in the interpretation and application of currant fire safety legislation. Including analysing plans and advising design teams on proposed and ongoing projects, both new build and alterations to existing structures. Demonstrating an understanding of Fire Engineering principles and Fire Modelling Techniques.

Essential experience

  • A demonstrable work history within the Construction Industry in a Fire Safety Role.
  • NEBOSH National General Certificate or equivalent
  • NEBOSH National Certificate in Fire Safety and Risk Management or equivalent
  • Working knowledge of Regulatory Reform Fire Safety Order 2005, Fire Safety Act 2021 (Future building safety regulations), and Part B or the Building Regulations (Fire Safety) and BS999 2017 Fire safety in the design, management and use of buildings.
  • You will need to satisfy security requirements. This may require you to hold or be eligible/capable of achieving ‘Security Check’ (SC) clearance. Due to the nature of this role and industry, we can unfortunately only consider sole British nationals.
