Incident Command and Leadership Training Manager

About the role

Purpose of role: To manage multiple training teams across multiple locations to deliver a training service to our client, the London Fire Brigade.

Role Context:

• Babcock is contracted to deliver over 200 different types of training courses to the London Fire Brigade (LFB) totalling some 4,000 individual classes each year. This role is responsible for managing one of the competency groups that fall within this contract.


Key Skills:


• Experience of successfully managing complex projects within challenging timescales
• Practical experience of people management that includes learning and development professionals delivering a range of theoretical and practical subjects across multiple venues
• In-depth knowledge of the requirements for development and maintenance of trainer competence and how this can be achieved to ensure that people achieve their true potential
• An ability to monitor and manage the effective use of materials, equipment, and personnel in producing unit outputs, products and services to meet quality and schedule objectives at minimum cost.

Main Tasks and Activities:


• Embed a training environment which is adaptive to the specific learning needs of the delegates.
• Understanding how the LFB return on investment in training can be monitored and reported to be used as a measure for continuous improvement.
• Liaising with LFB and Babcock stakeholders to ensure customer needs are fully understood
• To act as the key stakeholder in relation to training material creation and adjustments ensuring that innovation is adopted where practical
• Ensuring that equipment and venue requirements are identified as suitable
• Ensuring courses are delivered with appropriate resources (trainers, equipment and facilities)
• Ensuring safe systems of work are fully maintained
• Carrying out any required performance and / or accident investigations
• To be responsible for ensuring that staff remain Suitably Qualified for the role that they are performing
• To manage a team of sector competent professionals and utilise that knowledge to be provide quality training  

Additional Key Accountabilities:


• Carrying out Operational Duty Manager responsibilities in line with rota


Describe with whom the role regularly interfaces:

• External – LFB Training Programming Team, LFB Training Commissioning Team, External Partners
• Internal - Babcock Senior Management Team (SMT), Training Managers, Design & Development team, Delivery Support Team


What do I need to do the role?

• Level 5 (or equivalent) qualification in a relevant subject matter.
• Level 5 Certificate in Education and Training or equivalent
• Project Management qualified (Foundation Level).
• IOSH Managing Safely/NEBOSH Certificate (or equivalent).

What else do I need to know?
