We’re looking for someone dynamic, ambitious and eager to make an impact to become our next Project Manager.


An exciting opportunity exists for a Project Manager to work in a leading defence technology company delivering a wide range of design, manufacturing and operational support projects to defence customers from our Skelton Offices based near Penrith, Cumbria. Our client’s diverse project portfolio continues to grow with a strong focus on world class high integrity maritime, weapons, communications and intelligence solutions

The successful individual will be a driven and experienced project manager who has independently delivered engineering projects to time, cost and quality across the whole project lifecycle, who is capable of working within a small but highly effective team where the highest of standards are expected from both a technical and behavioural perspective.

Key accountabilities include:
Delivering project scope in accordance with commercial requirements and customer needs
Planning, implementation, monitor and control of the project scope, schedule, resource requirements, budgets, quality and HSE requirements.
Planning and controlling finances by means of accurate estimation, forecast to complete and strong monitoring and control of spend.
Actively identifying, planning and controlling risk and opportunity to maximise value for the customer and our business.
Establishing and maintaining governance arrangements for the delivery of the project, defining clear roles, responsibilities and accountabilities across all project stakeholders and ensuring they are communicated.
Implementing and enforcing project reporting policies, ensuring reports are accurate, timely and presented in a professional and appropriate format.
Planning and delivering the stakeholder and communications management for the project through systemic identification and analysis of stakeholders, and the planning and conduct of interactions to engage and communicate with them.
Managing the Customer and Supplier interface to ensure timely delivery of the project scope and successful satisfaction of customer needs whilst maximising business value .
Support to Business Winning activities including proposal development and evaluation and optimisation of the preferred solution.
Development and promotion of continual improvements in the Safety, Health & Environmental culture
Encouraging diversity of thought and promoting an inclusive working environment.

Key skills and attributes

You’re someone who;

Can work collaboratively and build strong and influential relationships with key stakeholders, including our customers, internal delivery team and site management, to deliver our strategic objectives.
Has excellent listening and communication skills, with the ability to relate to, influence and coach supervisors and employees at all levels of the organisation.
Is a self-starter, who is performance driven - with a desire to make significant contribution/impact.
Is a critical thinker - who can understand complex issues (balancing the detail and the big picture), using insight/data (evidence) and their judgement to make good decisions.
Demonstrates commercial awareness with a good understanding of the business environment including customers, competitors and suppliers.
Has good knowledge of project tools and techniques including Microsoft Project (MS),and is competent in MS Office.
Is able to hold appropriate Security Clearance.


• It is preferred that the candidate holds the APM Practitioner Qualification (PQ) or APM  Project Management Qualification (PMQ) [formerly known as APMP] or equivalent qualification
