The role

As a Gas Engineer, you'll play a vital role in maintaining and improving the infrastructure that supports critical defence operations. Working across Babcock's Bicester estate, you'll carry out planned and reactive maintenance on commercial gas, heating, plumbing and water systems, helping to ensure facilities remain safe, compliant and operational.

 

Day-to-day you'll be required to:

  • Carry out planned and reactive maintenance across commercial gas, heating, plumbing and water systems.
  • Service, maintain and fault-finding commercial boilers and gas-fired heating equipment.
  • Respond to maintenance issues including leaks, blocked toilets and faulty pipework.
  • Complete planned preventative maintenance activities on water systems, including inspections and compliance checks.
  • Diagnose faults, repairing equipment and maintaining accurate maintenance records while working safely and efficiently.

 

The role is based onsite at Bicester, and the set working times are Monday to Friday, totalling 40 hours per week. Participation in an on-call rota is required, with a call-out allowance and company van provided.

 

Essential experience of the Gas Engineer:

  • Proven experience working as a Commercial Gas Engineer, Heating Engineer or similar in a commercial environment.
  • Experience servicing, maintaining and fault-finding gas boilers and heating systems.
  • Practical knowledge of plumbing, pipework and water systems.
  • Experience delivering planned and reactive maintenance within commercial, industrial or domestic environments.
  • Understanding of gas safety regulations, water hygiene requirements and safe working practices.

 

Qualifications for the Gas Engineer:

  • Gas qualification / Gas Safe competency, ideally commercial.
  • City and Guilds or equivalent qualification in Gas, Heating, Plumbing or Mechanical Engineering.
  • Full UK manual driving licence.

 

Security Clearance

The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Standard (BPSS) security clearance for this role.
