The role
As a Driver you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. You'll have a key role working within a small but highly effective Transport Services team, where the highest standards will be expected. You'll be required to drive and operate a wide range of general and specialist vehicles, from Passenger Carrying Vehicles (PCV, which include cars, minibuses and coaches), to both rigid and articulated Large Goods Vehicles (LGV). You'll be responsible for making sure RAF personnel, equipment and vehicles get to the right place, at the right time! 

 

Day-to-day you’ll be responsible for:

  • Loading, unloading, and securing various types of cargo
  • Conducting thorough daily vehicle inspections and reporting faults promptly
  • Supporting site operations by ensuring transport needs are met efficiently
  • Collaborating with internal teams and external stakeholders to maintain service standards
  • Upholding safety and compliance standards across all transport activities

 

This role is full time, working a 3-shift pattern – 3 early shifts 06:00–15:00, 3 late shifts 15:00–23:59, followed by 3 days off and is based onsite at RAF Cranwell and RAF Digby. Travel across the UK may be required, with overnight stays fully covered.

 

Essential experience of the Driver:

  • Familiarity with vehicle inspections and maintenance protocols
  • Previous experience in a Mechanical Transport or Logistics environment
  • Understanding of driving hours regulations and tachograph usage
  • Demonstrated leadership experience (can be non-work related)
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

 

Qualifications for the Driver:

  • Clean UK Driving Licence (Category B)
  • Category D Licence
  • Driver Certificate of Professional Competence (DCPC)
  • Ability to pass a colour perception test
  • Category C or C+E Licence and ADR Licence or Awareness would be desirable

 

Security Clearance

The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Standard (BPSS) / Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.
