In this role, you will:
- Report to the Babcock Marine Welding and NDT QA Manager, undertake technical support functions related to purchaser responsibility sets for welded fabrication and Non-Destructive testing (NDT) on behalf of Babcock Canada within the Victoria Class Submarine in service support contract (VISSC).
- Work closely with and support the Welding and NDT QA Manager and Welding QA team in the completion of the functions within scope.
- Undertake performance of Quality Assurance roles primarily focused on the creation, review and acceptance of internal and external Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and process controls to support the Babcock Quality Management System (QMS) within the scope of Welding, NDT.
- Support the process around Purchasers’ Inspection within specification of NDT and the inspection function (QC) of incoming NDT records. This may include functioning the process at peak work periods, but should be primarily focused in the QMS - establishing and monitoring (audits and metrics) of output.
- Work within in a multi faceted technical environment including the external customer (Canada), NDT subcontract service providers and fabrication providers and liaising with all stakeholders.
- Recognizing the nature of the vessels’ service, the criticality of welded fabrication of both structural high strength steels and process pressure piping you will strive at all times to assure safety and a robust QMS are the primary considerations in this role.
- Other duties as assigned.
The ideal candidate brings:
- 8+ years of experience in a Quality Assurance inspection or Quality Control examination, or a related technical role on welded fabrication to Code or Regulatory requirements. Marine experience is preferred.
- AScT certification in British Columbia, or eligibility to obtain certification
- A minimum of CSA W178.2 level 2 Welding Inspector CWB certification or equivalent.
- A solid working knowledge of welding processes, materials and NDT methods.
- The following criteria are considered assets:
- Welding experience, Red Seal certification and performance qualifications, recognized NDT (eg. CGSB or ISO 9712) technician certifications / qualifications.
- Other proficiency areas such as CAD
- An ability to work effectively when directly engaged with internal and external stakeholders.
- Ability to work as part of a team or independently with minimal supervision and readily shift priorities in a complex environment.
- Excellent interpersonal, written, verbal and electronic communications skills.
- Proficiency in IT, MS Word, Outlook, Excel.
- You are eligible for a Canadian Secret Security and ITAR Clearance
